ASPEN

Aspen is easy to work with and is often used as an alternative to Basswood. Paint and stains work quite well with this specie.

Color: Sapwood is creamy white; heartwood is greyish brown to greyish white.

Physical properties: Light in weight, soft, moderately weak in strength.

Produced thicknesses: 4/4 through 8/4.

Applications: Mouldings, core stock for doors, framing, caskets, matchsticks, wooden cookware, interior cabinet parts, etc.

Our history
1908
1908: C.A. Spencer is founded by Charles Alexander Spencer
1940
1940: Opening of the first lumber yard on the island of Montreal.
1967
1967: Colin Spencer (Charles Spencer’s son) takes over the business and the company is relocated to Laval where kilns and a warehouse are built.
1977
1977: Rémi Cadrin joins Colin Spencer as an associate and major expansions were made in the following years.
1987
1987: The purchase of WH Hunting Sawmill in Huntingville, Qc.
1989
1989: Beginning of business overseas.
1994
1994: Major expansions in Laval (new warehouse, grading chain and kilns).
2000
2000: The purchase of Scierie Carriere (sawmill) in Lachute, Qc.
2001
2001: New construction of Bois Hunting (sawmill) in Huntingville, Qc.
2002
2002: New construction of Scierie Carrière (sawmill) in Lachute, Qc.
2008
2008: Celebration of 100 years in business.
2012
2012: Construction of new office in Laval.
